Five days. Three watersheds. One big question: What does a sustainable agricultural future in Alberta look like?

Inside Education invites K–12 teachers, B.Ed students, and school administrators to join us for an unforgettable 5-day professional development experience at the heart of one of the most important conversations happening in our province right now: How do we grow food, raise livestock, and sustain communities when water is becoming less predictable?

This boots-on-the-ground learning opportunity takes participants across three of Alberta’s iconic watersheds, tracing the Red Deer, Bow, and Oldman River systems. Along the way, you will encounter the people, science, and landscapes at the forefront of conservation agriculture and water stewardship. With climate change rewriting the rules on water availability, every conversation is a window into what sustainable land use can look like when communities, science, and policy work together to adapt agricultural systems to a future that looks very different from the past.

Designed for K–12 educators across various disciplines, this tour builds content knowledge and first-hand experience that translates directly into the classroom. Participants will leave with new perspectives, connections with leading experts and practitioners, and a toolkit of resources for teaching conservation agriculture and water literacy in the context of a rapidly changing landscape. You’ll leave with deepened content knowledge, new professional connections, and classroom-ready resources. No prior background in agriculture or environmental science is required - just curiosity and a willingness to get outside.

Like all Inside Education programs, this teacher PD will be completely no-cost, including a travel subsidy. Full scholarships include all meals, accommodation and transportation during the program.

Inside Education’s work brings us to all corners of the province, as such, we acknowledge the Indigenous Peoples in the area currently known as Alberta. The relationship the Peoples of Treaty 6, Treaty 7, and Treaty 8 and Alberta’s Métis Peoples have with the land is founded on a deep respect for the environment.
