Air Quality Education and the Clean Air Responsible Schools Program

Join Inside Education as we kick off our exciting Clean Air Responsible Schools (C.A.R.S.) Program! These short teacher professional development sessions will give you the background and tools you need to set up a unique science education program that will have your students collecting data, assessing air quality and empower them to take action to improve local air quality.

Participants will hear from experts to learn about the challenges and opportunities of air quality in Alberta, workshop the Temboo Air Monitoring technology and gain ideas on how to integrate the air quality education into your classroom lessons.

Dates and Locations

January 25, 2024 - Virtual 

Time: 4:00 - 5:00pm
Online Zoom Link will be sent to participating teachers closer to the date

February 26, 2024 - Fort Saskatchewan

Time: 12:30 - 4:30pm
Location: Scotiabank Room, Dow Centennial Centre (8700 84 Street, Fort Saskatchewan, map)
This program includes:

  • Lunch, half-day supply teacher subsidy
  • Engaging with experts, tour through air quality monitoring station, teacher workshop to learn how to integrate air quality monitoring into the classroom with a Temboo monitor
  • Support implementing an education-action project
  • Air Quality Classroom presentation for your students following the program

Program Details

Studying local air quality provides a perfect opportunity to engage your students in real-world science. Inside Education is here to help you take your weather, climate and environmental chemistry units to the next level! You will leave this program with the tools and resources needed to support meaningful air quality education and stewardship in your classroom and walk away with a new appreciation for the air we breathe!

Participating schools will receive:

 - An informative PD session where you will meet experts and expand your teaching network

- Use of the Temboo air quality monitor to collect information on air pollutants including PM2.5, temperature, and relative humidity so students can see the immediate effects of inversions, smoky skies, increases in school traffic, and more!

- Inside Education’s support to implement an education action project to improve air quality around the school (ie: idle-free campaign, carpool zones, tree planting project, etc.)
