Vanessa White | Director, Renewable and Alternative Energy, Alberta Innovates

Vanessa is the Director, Renewable and Alternative Energy in the Clean Resources Division at Alberta Innovates, where she contributes to the advancement of grid modernization in Alberta through ecosystem development and supporting technology initiatives in the areas of non-emitting electricity generation, energy storage and enabling technologies.
Prior to joining Alberta Innovates, Vanessa spent more than 20 years in the upstream petroleum industry, where she drove innovation and developed her diverse background in project management, technology development and pilot operation. Vanessa is passionate about energy literacy. In 2016, she founded a company informing elementary and junior high students about the value of diversity in the Canadian energy portfolio.
Vanessa is a Professional Engineer and past member of the Board of Directors for the Society of Petroleum Engineers Canadian Educational Foundation (SPECEF) where she was the founding chair of the organization’s Energy Literacy Committee. Vanessa’s current board positions include the Decentralized Energy Canada’s Board of Directors and Foresight Clean Tech Accelerator’s Alberta Advisory Board.

Environmental and management professional with a passion for addressing environmental challenges and supporting and motivating others to do the same. Over fifteen years of experience managing and participating in multifaceted projects including integrating business and science to generate creative, practical solutions and business opportunities in the environmental and clean tech industries in Alberta in various different sectors including, upstream oil and gas, mineable and in-situ oil sands, coal mining, sand and gravel, diamond mining, forestry, pulp and paper, GHG mitigation and renewables. Keenly focused on convening collaborative partnerships and key areas of technical expertise to achieve mutually beneficial, holistic outcomes.
Trina Innes | Executive Director, Sustainability Services, Alberta Municipalities

Trina is Executive Director of Sustainability Services at Alberta Municipalities where she leads a portfolio of climate mitigation and adaptation initiatives including the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre and Clean Energy Improvement Program. Trina was recognized by the Women in Energy Transition Series in 2022, and as a Clean16 honoree in 2020 for national leadership in sustainability. Previously she served as a Chief Sustainability Officer in higher education. Trina is a Certified Climate Change Professional (CC-P®), Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP™), and corporate director (ICD.D).
Valerie Miller | Outreach and Engagement Coordinator, University of Alberta Future Energy Systems
Innovation Gallery (Saturday morning)
Valerie Miller completed her PhD in land reclamation at the University of Alberta in 2019, working at a diamond mine in northern Canada to build soils using mine waste, before joining Future Energy Systems (FES).
As Outreach and Engagement Coordinator, Valerie supports and mobilizes FES personnel seeking to share their research with external audiences through opportunities such as lab tours, talks, classroom programs, videos, and events. She is also the author of The Energy Adventures of Tommy and Remi series.
Denise Beaven | Girls Talk Tech Co-Chair, Conocophillips Canada

Denise Beaven has spent 40 years in the IT industry with 33 years at ConocoPhillips Canada. Girls Talk Tech’s goal is to help girls learn more about IT careers and feel confident they can succeed. Girls Talk Tech (GTT) was formalized in 2018 with the mission to educate, encourage and empower young women to embrace technology for the future.
