Boreal Wildlife Summer Institute July | 2 - 6, 2019

Boreal Wildlife Summer Institute - for invited participants only!

Congratulations on your acceptance to Inside Education’s Boreal Wildlife Professional Development Program. Here are all the details you need to help you start planning for this one-of-a-kind learning adventure that informs and inspires your teaching! 

This travelling program will start and end in Edmonton but we will travel ~1000km across the Boreal as we visit unique locations that demonstrate wildlife habitat, management and conservation.

DATES, TIMES, & LOCATION

Program Start: Tuesday July 2, 2019 – Edmonton - 11:00 am, River Cree Casino, Strongwoods room (map)
Program End: Saturday, July 6, 2019 – Edmonton - 12:00 pm, River Cree Casino, Strongwoods room 

*program registration 10:30 am ; program content will wrap up around noon in Edmonton

CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE

Please complete this participant details form to confirm your attendance to the program. This form must be completed by Friday June 14, 2019 to secure your space on the program.

ACCOMODATIONS
This is a traveling program and we will be staying in hotels that are located on the program route between Edmonton and Fort McMurray. We also have an overnight at an oil sands work camp in Conklin. Rooms are same gender double occupancy. If you know someone else on the program you can request your roommate on the details form. 

FOOD
Also an important item! Inside Education will provide all meals starting with lunch on Tuesday through to and including lunch on Saturday. We do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions, please indicate your food preferences on the participant details form.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
It's time! We expect that participants will travel with the group and attend the full program from start to finish so please plan accordingly.Make sure you know when/where to meet the Inside Education team. Your are responsible for making your own way to the program start location as well as your own way home after we wrap up. 

Pack your smile and your suitcase! Check out this helpful packing list  for some key things you might want to have with you - we program rain or shine with the exception of unsafe conditions.

TRAVEL AND SUPPLY TEACHER SUBSIDY

TRAVEL SUBSIDY
Participants were responsible for arranging their own travel to and from Olds College. However, a
 travel subsidy for participants traveling more than 300 km is available. This can be used to offset the costs of flights or mileage at a rate of $0.15/km. Please download the Mileage Expense Claim and follow the instructions to submit your claim.

SUPPLY TEACHER SUBSIDY
If you require a supply teacher for the dates you will be away Inside Education can provide a supply teacher subsidy of $150/day to help offset the cost. Please review the supply teacher subsidy for details.

Mining in Alberta Program - Nov. 1-3, 2018

Thank you so much for digging deeper with us during the Mining in Alberta Teacher Professional Development Program! We were thrilled to have such a great group of engaged educators join us for this 3 day learning adventure and we can’t wait to help you share the experience with your students. Below is some follow up information from the program.

Energy and Climate Ecolab/A+ for Energy PD - Calgary - August 27-28, 2018

Thank you so much for joining us on our first ever joint PD program!

  1. Files, photos, and more! We tried our hand at creating a Google Classroom but hit some roadblocks with teacher emails and firewalls. So, if you’d like to access any of the presentations or the EcoExpo explanations, head to our shared Google folder.

Energy & Water Summer Institute - July 3-7, 2018

This 5-day PD program took you through two Treaty lands, three watersheds, and four communities, not to mention over 1,000 kilometers through the beautiful boreal forest region of Alberta! We can’t believe it’s over, and we know it’s a while until September, but here are a few resources and follow-ups to get you through the next few months:

  1. See the detailed 2018 Energy & Water Schedule and our Google map to remember what you did, where you saw it, and who we heard from.
  2. If you haven’t already, please fill out our survey.
  3. Take a look (and download!) the presentations from our speakers from our Shared Folder.
