CLASSROOM PROGRAMS

Let us inspire your students!

Using our award-winning approach to environment and natural resource education, our team of professional educators will bring current and curriculum-relevant programs to your school. Based on our pillars of multiple perspectives and critical thinking, we will engage students in a thoughtful exploration of Alberta’s environment, society and economy in the classroom and in the field.

Inside Education is taking school presentation requests for the 2018-2019 school year.

Submitting a booking request for your school is easy
  • Browse our presentations and select a program
  • Submit an online presentation request for your school, most of our no-cost school programs are 1 hour in length
     – AM bookings are available between 9:30 am – 12:00 pm
     – PM bookings are available between 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm
  • An Inside Education educator will contact you one month prior to your requested date
  • Once presentation details are confirmed, you will be asked to submit a separate booking confirmation form to secure your presentation.
  • Please coordinate with other classes and grade levels.

Elementary Programs

Get your students together for a session that will inspire environmental stewardship using curriculum relevant content! These programs are designed to be delivered in a multi-class format.

Energy Expo | All Grades

Students will experience hands-on energy and climate education with our interactive stations ranging from solar demonstrations, wind turbine models, virtual reality goggles and more

Curriculum Connections: We have activities designed for all grade levels. Expos are designed to accommodate multiple classes!

Details: We are flexible on the format for the day and will work within your bell schedule and space.


 

Gr. 4  - Natural Resources & Energy

Using Alberta’s natural regions as our map, we will explore natural resources and develop a deeper understanding of how we use and produce energy in Alberta and what we can do to conserve our natural resources.

Themes: renewable & non-renewable resources, Alberta’s natural regions, energy production, energy use, energy efficiency & conservation

Curriculum Connections:
* this presentation is well-suited to all students in grades 4-6 who are eager to learn more about what makes Alberta unique and be inspired to become environmental leaders in their schools!

Gr. 5 - Electricity and Energy

From wind turbines to coal-fired power plants our electricity landscape is shaped by natural resources. Examine electricity from a Canadian perspective and learn how electricity is made, moved and connected to how we live, work and play.

Themes: electricity from natural resources, electricity generation, transmission, electrical safety, climate change, electricity use and energy conservation, efficiency and stewardship

Gr. 6 - Alberta's Forests

Investigate the multiple perspectives that shape a working forest without leaving your classroom. This inquiry-based program will discuss the social, economic and environmental values of Alberta’s forests, alongside key issues and innovations that are changing our forest landscape.

Themes: forest ecosystems, careers, climate change, sustainable forest management, forestry tools, forest products, multiple land use, traditional knowledge and stewardship

Junior High Programs

Electricity Challenge  - A Solar Lantern Building Project

Take your students on a critical thinking evaluation of electricity and get the big picture on generation and consumption. This unique 1.5 hour program will engage students in meaningful energy education through action. The program includes an interactive presentation and solar lantern building workshop.

  • Evaluate sources of energy and investigate electrical technologies
  • Develop a global energy perspective and think critically to solve electricity challenges
  • Work together to build solar lanterns as part of the STAR EcoWorks Leading Light ® Initiative that will see lanterns sent overseas at the end of the school year.

*Due to the number of solar lanterns available we suggest a maximum of 50 students per workshop

Agriculture in Alberta  - Cultivating Stewardship

Inside Education can help you bring important Alberta-relevant context to your grade 7 plants for food and fibre unit with a hands-on inquiry into key agricultural topics! Students will explore the who, what and why of agriculture in Alberta and the balance between a growing population and sustainable agriculture practices.

Using Inside Education’s energy dialogues  resource we will explore the relationship between Alberta’s energy industry and our natural environment.
