On November 15, a group of twenty-eight teachers from across the province toured Alberta’s oil sands as part of Inside Education’s Oil Sands Education Ecolab. The program, offered in conjunction with the Science Council Conference, saw teachers fly-over the oil sands, visit the Oil Sands Discovery Centre and tour Syncrude Canada’s facilities. Tour gives Alta. teachers inside look at water use in southern Alberta

Bill Van Der Weide called it one of the best kep secrets he ever caught wind of, and was at a loss as to why no Lethbridge teachers attended a two-day conference held in their own city. Van Der Weide was one of more than 20 teachers who attended Inside Education's Water and Agriculture Education Tour held Friday and Saturday, in and around Lethbridge.” more

F.R. Haythorne science teacher Al Borkent was awarded a 2006 Teacher Award from the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA). Nominated by colleagues and peers, Al was lauded for his fun and creative approach to science, a subject he has taught for 25 years. “My classes are dynamic, exciting and intensive. For his outstanding contribution to forestry, Inside Education's former president Alex Drummond is being awarded the James M Kitz Award by the Canadian Institute of Forestry. The James M Kitz Award recognizes forest practitioners who have made outstanding contributions to forestry early in their careers.more

Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries has been recognized for its contribution to increasing awareness of stewardship efforts in Canada's forests. Their education program, headed by Inside Education board member Dave Rauscher, was recognized with the Forest Stewardship Recognition Program award, presented annually to individuals, organizations and companies for outstanding stewardship in Canada's forests. more
