Student Education Summits

We are proud to expand our programming to include a new format for engaging students and teachers - our unique Student Education Summits. These learning experiences provide an unprecedented opportunity for Alberta students to learn with their teachers and then act on their learning to make a meaningful contribution to natural resources and environmental education in their schools and communities.

The response we received from our inaugural summit, Generate 2011, was so positive that we have planned two events for this year: Navigate 2012 and Generate Edmonton.

On March 12-13, 2012 we hosted Edmonton high school students and teachers and gave them the opportunity to explore their local energy landscape and gain the knowledge and tools needed to make a positive impact on energy education in our city.

Based on the success of Generate 2011, we hosted Navigate 2012: A Water Literacy Youth Summit March 15-18, 2012. This three-day summit provided a unique opportunity for teams of Alberta high school students and their teachers to investigate the science, technology, environment, issues and careers related to water in Alberta and then apply their learning when they return home with water education projects.

Generate 2011: An Energy Literacy Youth Summit
, held March 17-20, 2011, brought together 80 high school students and 40 teachers from around the province to explore Alberta's energy story together in the the beautiful Canadian Rockies.

We generated ideas and discussion on the most pressing issues related to energy use, development and conservation. The 20 energy literacy teams returned to their schools and communities and implemented projects to share their knowledge through energy literacy projects.
